Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which assessment my child may need?

If you're unsure where to start, a comprehensive assessment consultation can help identify the more appropriate assessment pathway based on your current concerns and your child's needs.

What age groups do you work with?

Assessments are available for children and adolescents from preschool age through to teenage years.

Do I need a referral?

A referral is not required. However, some families may choose to obtain a referral from their GP, Paediatrician, or another health professional.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate for assessments?

Medicare rebates are not available for assessment services.

How long will the assessment process take?

The assessment process varies depending on the type of assessment and your child's individual needs. Timeframes and session requirements will be discussed with you during your initial assessment.

Do you offer payment plans?

Payment plans may be available for some assessment services. Please contact the clinic to discuss available options.

Will I receive a report?

Yes. A comprehensive written report is provided following the assessment process, outlining findings, strengths and tailored recommendations. Where appropriate, the report may also include diagnostic information and recommendations for ongoing support.

How long will it take to receive the report?

A comprehensive report will be provided within 2-4 weeks following the completion of the assessment process. A feedback session will also be scheduled to discuss the assessment outcomes, recommendations, and next steps.

Can assessments support school or NDIS applications?

Assessment reports may assist in supporting school-based adjustments, recommendations and applications where appropriate. This can be discussed further based on your child's individual circumstances.

Can assessments be completed via telehealth?

Some appointments, such as parent consultations and feedback sessions, may be offered via telehealth where appropriate. Child assessments sessions are typically completed in clinic, however school-based sessions may also be arranged with school approval. Please note that travel fees apply for all school visits.

What if my child feels anxious about assessments?

Many children feel unsure at first. Sessions are designed to be supportive, child-friendly and paced to help your child feel comfortable and safe during the process. Your psychologist can also provide guidance or a simple script to help you explain the assessment process to your child before their first session.
